The Algarve is famous for a wide range of beaches from towering sea cliffs to the typical long stretch of dunes and sand. Thus, to get a bit of everything take a walk alongside Vilamoura beaches.
Where to start?
Begin from Vilamoura beach, a decent sized strip of golden sand set between the Marina to the west and Quarteira har-bour to the east. Walk along the stones, take a deep breath and feel the ocean smell. The scenery of the waves splashing all over the stones would make a perfect natural background for your pictures.
10 minutes walk and you are in the largest Marina in Portugal - Vilamoura Marina, voted the best, time after time, by the Publituris Portugal Trade Awards. To get to the other side of the beach you must first walk alongside the Marina, where you can spend a little time to enjoy everything it has to offer. There are newsagents, supermarkets, banks, general stores and a variety of traditional handicraft shops and boutiques. Various activities may be enjoyed at the Marina. Boat charters, big game fishing and scuba diving are among the opportunities available. Jet-skis and bicycles may be hired.
When you get to the other side of the Marina you will begin your walk on a 6km of outstanding land-scape beauty, Falésia Beach. It stretches from Vilamoura in the East all the way to Olhos de Água (near Albufeira) in the West.
About half of the beach towards the Albufeira region is protected by red and orange colored sandy cliffs, with pine trees on the top and beautiful flowers at the bottom, such as the pink spiny thrift and the white sand lilies.
In 2018 Falésia Beach was considered the number one beach in Portugal, the third best beach in Europe and the number 12 best beach in the World by TripAdvisor. Travelers praise the beach for its beauty and diversity. The orange rocks con-trasting with green pines and dark blue skies make this one of the most memorable beaches in Portu-gal. Praia da Falésia is a very clean beach, which is one of the reasons it has consistently earned the Blue Flag Beach title. During summer, this beach is also well known for the sunset parties that the bar NoSolo organizes.
